July 28, 2024 | New Delhi, India
The ITS India Forum, in collaboration with the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), hosted the International Conference on “Reshaping Mobility in India” on July 28, 2024, in New Delhi. The event convened top national and international experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to explore forward-looking strategies for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in India.
Shri Akhilesh Srivastava, President of ITS India Forum, addressed the Forum’s recent successes, including the CV2X Green Corridor and the Safe Driving Score system. He emphasized collaborations with BIS, IEEE, ITU, and ISO toward formulating Indian ITS standards and discussed upcoming capacity-building programs and alternative financing frameworks for ITS deployment.
Prof. Naoyuki Yoshino, former Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), presented insights on the Spillover Impact of Infrastructure and ITS on Transportation and Financing. He highlighted how digitalization boosts total factor productivity and GDP growth. Citing PPP project failure rates—40.8% in Latin America and 54.5% in Developing Asia—he identified funding model conflicts as a key issue and proposed leveraging tax revenues from ITS-related spillover impacts to support infrastructure developers.
Macro Marechal from Arcadis addressed the role of Mobility Digital Twin technology in advancing sustainable smart cities.
Key Indian leaders contributed with sector-specific insights:
Mr. Sudhendu J. Sinha, Advisor, NITI Aayog, emphasized the need for quality and safety in ITS applications.
Shri B.N. Puri spoke on equitable infrastructure access and regional distribution.
Prof. K.K. Aggarwal addressed the balance between emerging technology and cybersecurity challenges.
Mr. Arun Saxena discussed ITS applications in the railway sector, highlighting Project Kavach, India’s automatic train protection system.
